The Driver’s License
Requirements for Obtaining a Driver’s License
  • Exam Fee $500 (receipt).
  • A completed general/private application form. On the general license application form, there is a section that must be signed by a doctor.
  • 3 Passport size photographs signed by the same Justice of the Peace (J.P.).
  • Provisional Driver’s License (Learner’s).
  • Must be at least 18 years old on last birthday.
  • A licensed instructor to accompany you.
  • Tax Payer Registration Number (TRN).
  • The type and size motor vehicle you wish to be licensed to operate (this must also be written onto the application form).
The Steps in Obtaining a Driver’s License
  1. Take all the relevant documents listed above to the Collectorate of Taxes of your choice.
  2. Have all the documents checked at the information desk.
  3. Pay the exam fee, $500.00, and collect a receipt.
  4. Take documents and receipt to the examination depot of your choice.
  5. Make an appointment to do the exam (this date will be approximately 2-3 weeks after the date you make the appointment).
  6. If you pass the exam return to the Collectorate of Taxes with your certificate of competence.
  7. Go to the motor vehicle and license department and hand in your certificate of competence.
  8. Pay the license fee to the Accounts Department (General - $2300.00/Private - $1550.00/Motor Cycle - $1300.00) and collect a receipt.
  9. Take receipt to the Motor Vehicle and License department and have your picture taken.
  10. You will receive your Driver’s License within an hour.
